What
is Applied Behavior Analysis?
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a discipline devoted to the understanding and improvement of human behavior. ABA can be used as an educational intervention to teach children with autism. Using ABA, skills are broken down into components and taught systematically - one skill building the foundation for the next.
ABA focuses on specifically defined behaviors that can be measured and are important to the learner. It involves implementing procedures designed to improve behavior and collecting and analyzing data to ensure that the procedures are working as designed.
ABA is currently the only well researched and proven intervention for the treatment of children with Autism. The field of applied behavior analysis is based on over 50 years of scientific research. This treatment approach teaches skills in small steps using individualized curricula modified to reflect the strengths and needs of each child.
